Learning unit content
The course will cover the fundamentals of the multimedia pipeline, including data acquisition, digitization and representation, compression and storage, communication and transmission, and visualization for both analog and digital audio, image, and video data.
The lectures will cover the following topics: basics of multimedia, Graphics and image data representation, Analog and digital video, The pinhole camera model and beyond, Colorimetry and color spaces, Fundamentals of acoustics, Displays and speakers, Image compression algorithms, Video compression algorithms, Audio compression algorithms, Transmission protocols, Internet distribution, virtual reality and augmented reality.
